Are memoirs history, fiction, or something else?

Historians and scholars disagree, but memoirs are useful primary sources.


Because these are first-hand accounts in the author’s own words. As with any primary source, however, sections of the narrative can contain opinions or bias. It is this point of view that requires attention and analysis.
