The events of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and the Trial of Sacco and Vanzetti show us the opportunities and limits of workers and immigrants, new and old, participating in the American political process and effecting change.

As you think about events today, reflect on why people would or would not speak out on issues and events that concern them.

How did immigrants obtain political power? How do American citizens affect change in their government?
