SIW Summer Showcase

The first day of summer was a perfect time for fifth graders at the Ferryway school to showcase their Saugus Iron Works (SIW) learning for parents. The event, held in the school's lobby, provided an opportunity to exhibit the many creative products produced as part of the SIW curriculum unit. Rock people, given life and personalities by their fifth-grade parents were seen on every table. In one corner, students proudly demonstrated how a waterwheel built from paper cups, plates and tape could lift the weight of one hundred nuts when running water was poured over it. Tucked in a space outside the library, students showed parents a multimedia presentation referred to as the parent page recorded in several languages. One chinese grandmother smiled excitedly as she heard Mandarin Chinese spoken. The event concluded with the official presentation of ranger certificates to each student.
