The Saugus Iron Works as Placed-Based Learning

The latest edition of Edutopia features an article on Placed-Based Learning. The author, James Lewicki offers an acronym to summarize his findings. The Saugus Iron Works unit is definitely a good example of Place-Based Learning.
MEASURES
Measurable lifelong-learning skills are embedded in an academic core.
Effort is obvious and public.
Aligned with clear academic standards.
Student opportunity for initiative, simply put, is endless.
Understood by parents and the community.
Reflection time for establishment of meaning is built-in; preparatory project understanding is critical.
Evidence is clear, credible, and compelling, leading to future endeavors.
Sustainable learning beyond the expectations of adults, for learning's sake itself.
