Carbon Compounds

Lesson Plan

State Standards:

From DESE’s Science Technology / Engineering:

From ELBPO:

Essential Questions:

  1. What are the most common elements that make up living things?
  2. What are the basic structures and functions of the four major organic molecules?

Lesson Question:

  1. What are the basic structures and functions of the four major organic molecules?

Introduction:

As we have already done the Molecule Investigation, now we are going to use what we learned to make a "Prezi". In this activity you will practice the structure and function of the four major organic compounds and your technology skills.

Task:

Your task will be to create your own Prezi on the carbon compounds and edit the class wiki on this same topic. To so do you will need to follow the lesson experiences listed bellow.

Lesson Experiences:

First, you will learn how to make a prezi!
Watch the video bellow:

Second, you must create your own prezi account.

Third, you will create your own prezi on the carbon compounds. To be sure you are including everything you need, you may review the prezi bellow I create to assist you and you must review the Prezi Carbon Compounds Rubric.

Please review this prezi:

Now use the idea on the Prezi I create to make your own. Be sure to follow the guidelines outlined on the Prezi Carbon Compound Rubric. Note: You do not have to use the same layout and diagrams I used, be creative!

Now that you have complete your Molecule Investigation and have created your own prezi on the carbon compounds, you are going to use your knowledge to edit our class wiki. Go to the wiki Ms. Janik's FHS ESL Bio Wiki

Here you will be responsible for editing the wiki by adding any accurate fact about the carbon compounds. This could be a video, a diagram, or a fact. You will be graded on the relevance and accuracy of your fact.
Remember: Organize the wiki well, as we will publish the wiki after it is done.

Conclusion:

Finally, now that you know all there is to know about carbon compounds, take this online "quizy whizy". Carbon Compound Quizy Whizy

Assessments:

1. This is the rubric that will be used to grade your Prezi project. Be sure to review it.
Important: I suggest you use the rubric to grade yourself before turning in your project.
